God is Good, Nov 4, 2023

Hurray, Every one made it through the day.  Thank You God.  Sis, DIL, Bro, Dear Friend,  Future family member and all others in need.  I think we are being told to re think and re do and do more for others.

It surely does not hurt to be more caring and sensitive to other needs. It is nice to see some of our political staff are firm believers in God and having Faith. It may be what pulls us through this mess the world in now.

Today I found some papers that are so great to read.  I am triple blessed.  Having moved things so much due to family intake and outtake I had misremembered where they were.   Jones data that we so truly need.

Knowing I had communicated with them for about five years before they passed, wasn't sure I could ever replicate the data, without lots of more digging.

Now for the weather to have more moisture so this sinus drag goes away. Fires die out and air is more clear.

If time in life permits I may try to track down the GIBSON line that we have that is only 3 Gens back,

Think it would be cool if Miss Gibson our teacher at Tomales HI  was a distant cousin and her sister .

Now the next big thing is to find how come this is no longer a secure site. What has changed and by whom.????

Gibson in VA and WVA and OH and over to IA and MO. More to come soon.

Blessings to all.

A Tale to Tell. Genealogy is Fun.

Greeting, genealogy can be fun and educational and exciting.  Some times you learn you descend from a well known person and sometimes a poster wanted person.

What I would love to see is genealogy in schools, teaching them we are all human beings with good points and not so good points.

We only inherit a small piece of so many in our background.  Thinking if as students, we learn we are not so different, we may not want to work against each other but work together to see how much further we can go, do, and excel in life.

Our world gets smaller every day in so many ways.  So thankful for the friends and acquaintances we have developed.

Youth need help understanding, if you stop and smell a rose, your life my garner more riches than you ever thought possible. Helping others comes with large  rewards, sooner or later, generally when not expected.

WONDERING WHY, HAVE YOU EVER DONE THE SAME?

Randy's  on Wednesday was a  major event for many,  I suspect. Having been requesting

genealogists to share data  all the time I have done genealogy and that has been at least 50 years.

Yes Mom indoctrinated me in as a youth.  Then First born near death and I had to cold call my in -laws

I had yet to meet and ask serious medical questions. Husband in situation he could not be reached.

Military.

I learned quickly they were awesome and the news they gave me helped to save our child.

Many years later we found Mom's line and theirs interlinked, 60 yrs later.  I believe it was third cousins

a way back shared kin.  BROWN.

At the meeting some members who've never attended any of my classes,  shared places and names

about areas I have researched and some been to with kin in.  Another now deceased member Virginia

Taylor shared some of this area with me years ago..  She was also a cousin we learned about ten years

before her leaving us.

Having also worked for the Golden Gate Forum by George Ferguson on AOL, having covered the

Mid-Atlantic region for nearly 10 years for them. Yes,  my shelves have more information also.

Much of my Mothers lines came from Maryland, Old Virginia and Pennsylvania.

I went to Pennsylvania in 1994. Spent two weeks with family kin that were as awesome as what

my Grandfather had always told me. His request to me was  <go to Greene Co. PA and meet, our family.>.

Anxiously await to hear from new faces that I am sure one may link to mine.  One Guest did

not share the name only the area.  That does not make genealogy grow.   The information is helpful

but having learned from some of the best Genealogists around, sharing is so vital to finding the "lost name

in the plethora of names, places and times of the past."       An example is Pennsylvania's boundary

changes over the years of development.  The government changed also over a period of time. The

southwest region of the state was claimed by Virginia and changed in 1780's.  Also the same applied to

Maryland, they claimed about 50 miles up into Pennsylvania,  verses Pennsylvania claimed into . ,

Maryland.  This being the reason for the Mason - Dixie Line which was done more than once to

make all happier.

Ohio was part of the early package on the west.  Much of my kin were in all three regions early. Of

course , the government was expanding. originally Virginia claimed to the Mississippi River, and north to

Iowa region etc..  More to follow just wish more attended classes.

FAMILY FACTS, UNKNOWN FACTS BY SOME, WHAT TO DO TO CORRECT SITUATION

For some days now, I have been trying to deal with some very important information regarding

Dad's family.  I thought all of Dad's siblings were aware of this family information regarding a

situation.  Sort of strange because Aunt Bethel knew, Uncle Gerald knew, always thought the closeness

of  Bethel and Muriel, that A Muriel knew.  For their older sister to not know has left me nWe, I thought

were close.  No I was in HI when she passed I think.  Maybe she didn't think it important for

children to know..

Dad being the oldest witness this situation several times.  Our Grandparents divorced.  We all knew this.

I got a IN YOUR FACE EDUCATION by my Grandma and my Dad around midnight the week of my

 graduation.

This started as topic about Dad and his siblings past,   Mom said.  I can tell you now it was the best

thing to happen between, Gmom  and Dad. Much healing in his heart and hers came about and I saw it.

I am not going to post the whole story here, but some cousins need to be made aware that some things

weren't as they seemed.  They missed getting to know a Grandfather with a college background, sent

to France to be a Chef.  He told me he married the woman he wanted to and would love her til death

took them away. That statement made July 1958 in Casper, Wyo. by him to our family. He never wanted

the divorce.

We found him with family help  and friends help in 1952.  He was in Casper Wyo. sick with pneumonia.

Something we learned he got to often.  He came to visit us and stayed for a period of time.  I thought

Aunt Etta had the boys over but many times when company come they were to busy. to tell family hi.

He would catch little Lucky's tears when he had a fit and say grabbing a glass, cup, jar , what ever was handy and put it up to his face. "We can't let them steers get away."  Lucky would immediately stop his tantrum or unhappiness,.It did not matter which. HE just stopped and looked at Grandpa.  What a clever

thing for him to do.  He taught Mom to put some pineapple juice in Navy beans to remove the gas.  I still do it and it really cuts gas reaction. He taught us other neat things about being in the kitchen.O yes, never put lid on beans it keeps gas in system. Almost forgot that one.  He shared many hints with us.

He could make a leg of lamb be the tastiest piece of meat ever created.  I never could duplicate it.

We saw him last the same year 1958 in Casper when he again had pneumonia very very bad .

He cried when he told me about the divorce.  He never blamed Ida.  But he put much information

about his Mother in Law as part of issue.  When he and Dad explained situation I could feel the pain.

He didn't dislike her either but some things allowed were not proper.   This so helped Dad and I to

understand things better.  She Gmom did as taught not as appropriate for others.

I was thrilled Dad could finally talk nice things about his Mom.  He did love her underneath.

She stayed I think with all her children in her last years and she lived in my home in Coronado in the

1966-7 time period.  Later in this house for 6 months after we bought and had come back from HI. 1970

Aunt Jennie was very ill with cancer and she rotated to Uncle Gerald's (Jerry) and here per stress

and be here as her son needed her support.

I can not talk of some of the past but Aunt Bethel,  suffered much as others did.  She told me many times

her Dad never hurt any of them and tried to help often but she (G) was upset and did not want the children to have any help but hers even when Bethel had no shoes and Etta no coat in 33 degree weather. Which.. caused Dad to dislike the pain his siblings had to endure.   I was  glad Dad and her were on decent terms

when she passed.  He truly felt bad at all they missed due to attitude.  Yes by more than one I suspect it was affecting all.

Sometimes pride can harm the best of Situations.

Please I wish all Members to attend and share this experience with others.   November is the Thankful Month we should taking advantage of the thoughts it brings up in ones research.  Please do attend 21 November.  1 to 3 pm Bonita Sunnyside Library.

August Event was written up and sent : due to turning the floor over to our President for her goals for October..
I post often. We started this blog in Lemon Grove years ago. Always find data here or information to ponder.

My other blog is family related.  My cousin and I have two sites for sources on our lineage which I will share next month.

This month for September we will continue to do as our by laws say to help each other to move forward in our research.  I will be bringing books and possibly the Charts from our  CVL library to go over.

It is always fun to find new links and more information.  Someone on Facebook Ohio Genealogical Site asked this question.  What was some of the titles or jobs that your ancestors did?  I answered my Uncle and my Grandfather,  his DAD had a side job of Bee Keepers and sold honey for many, many years.  The writer had never heard of a Bee Keeper before.

I am awaiting word from President as to the October events title etc for the posters we  put out at the Library and
Historical Society.

Our American Beginnings Everyone is Forgetting.

Our American Beginnings Everyone is Forgetting

The first oppressed people were the Indians that greeted us and helped us to survive. Still today they are not given the recognition they deserve and yes some did not deserve much recognition. Our Negroid race are fabulous people. But for reparations they need to seek it from Holland or Netherlands. They are the ones who bought those as slaves and sent them all over to make money and to cut back on the internal fighting that was upsetting their goals. In Africa, I do not think many have studied our past history especially of the world. WE do not owe the black??? enslaved people the Netherlands did it they owe us all something. Those who were shipped here were truly saved from a slavery they did not even precive . We in turned saved them from what those left behind has had to survive to live through. Many tribes did not survive these major upheavels in Africa. I read the paper today and they still are squabbling instead of attempting to work together and change everyones lives there. Amazing how beautiful this place must have been. Granted after early people bought slaves some were very mean and ugly but many were not mean or ugly. They were taken care of far better than those left behind. DO SOME HOMEWORK.

Another thing is very few of us if any, are not not of a form of a mixed race. Formost I am an American but of many past descendants. Have you studied history? Do you realize how many countries the first people's kin migrated through and how the family changed constantly. Do you have any idea how many centuries we are have been hanging around? Have you done your CRI Genetics and learned more about your past, not your names but heritage? The last two thousand years has been semi well recorded. I have lived long enough to say massive major changes. Hurray the Negroid race has been recognized.

The Indians still on Reservations and told what they can or can not do. Todays news said Negroid people were being recognized shame on them as journalists they did not do their homework Remebering if they, Indians hadn't helped the early Europeans we may not have survived to today. I can say I am proud to be part of many nations in my past including 3 tribes at least of Indians. I still have one I am looking for in Indian heritage. I am who I am and you are who you allowed yourselves to be. No one can make you be different. I know many well recived people that heritage came out of Africa. Most all can succeed if they try hard and our fellow man steps up and realizes we are all human beings. So far we have not found a a Martian or Venusian or other out of this world people here.

All can move forward if they have manners, and earn others respect and do unto others as you wish done onto you. Having read the records of how Teague JONES was treated by the Mayflower people and then the Judge pardoned him for his deeds done which Judge said was appropriate due to the methods treated by them. Many quickly went to Rhode Island and north to Novia Scotia.

We have a very mixed past and no one was perfect. Enjoy reading the National Geographic Magazine, The Archeology Magazine, Many books in History Section of Various Libraries throughout the USA. History abouds all about us. You have to keep your ears open and your eyes to see what is really around you. Not just what you perceive. I could not decide if I wanted Archeology or Teacher or Write as I graduated from HIgh School. I never took my finger off the three of them. Data talked about above was located in various books over eons of my lifetime.

My latest read was The American Heritage Book of Indians, Dell Publishing Co. Inc., Copyrighted 1961 by American Heritage Publishing Co., Inc. 9th printing 1974. Reread: Without Indentures: Index to White Slave Children in Colonial Court Records. (Maryland and Virginia) Richard Hayes Phillips, Ph. D., Copyright 2013. Genealogical Publishing Company Much in the first book seems to not fit what we are being told today,. there are several pages regarding one of our ancestors,

Alas we need to write our own stories as we go because the ground seems to change as time moves through. WE have many Doctors, Lawyers, Congresmen, Judges, writers, Teachers, etc. that come from this early group of people. Most that were sent to slavery away from Africa were leaders in their regions and were threats to the less successful tribes or groups, Yes they were intelligent and smart, So stop selling them short or yourself. But this happened in many other areas also.

3 September 1938. Wheatland, Wyoming

3 Sept 1938, Wheatland, Wyo Court House.

Dad took Mom down to the Court House with her. brother and others and they exchanged

their wedding vows.  Dad left us in 1995.   They had a good life together.

They lived in Wheatland, Wyo on a cattle Ranch for Morris Thomas then moved to a

cattle ranch in Greybull, WYO.    Then the War came along and he was needed to

milk cows in California so they moved west almost to the Pacific Ocean about 8

miles away.  Living at Morelli's his brother in laws. They added Roberta Geraldine

12 Nov 1946.  We then moved to Leo Moretti's Ranch a few miles down the road

and Mom had Ray Dee Jones Jr.  I started school while living there.  They had to

drive into Petaluma for my Kindergarten class and my First grade class.

Dad started looking for a home for us and after many places of looking

we settled in a town called Valley Ford, CA.  He milked cows then at Mr. Atkinson's

in Bloomfield.   Then he learned he could work at Hunt and Behrens ' in Petaluma.

He retired from there many years later.

They had M Dale JONES in 1952 at Petaluma Hospital and our address was our

own in Valley Ford, Ca .  Lucky and Dale went to Valley Ford School in front of

our house at the end of our lane.  Sis and I were at St. Vincents, and Valley Ford

School and we all graduated from Tomales High School in Tomales, CA.

She and I were in and out of St. Vincents for various years.

Yes, Dad and Mom bought in 1948 in Valley Ford.  I did 3rd and 4th and 5th grade

there. Then back to St. Vincent's until I was starting my Junior year  I was able

to come back and go to Tomales High School and graduate with my girlfriend

Norma Jean Bordessa.  Alice Merga graduated the year before. Jane and Diane

Beal also neighbors and friends were also at Tomales High School. I believe Jane

      graduated with Alice.

Cluster Research Verses Name Research

                                            Cluster Research Verses Name Research

Census Searching and other list forms, Tax lists, etc this applies to.

I learned this from a well known Researcher to do, what today is called CLUSTERING.

When you open a census page up for a surname, look for the surname also on the page before

and after.  The chance of relatives is very great.  Especially in the 1790 to 1850 census , though

      it applies to all lists.

You may find the names you need but save the other ones also for falling back on

when you hit a brick wall and need to get additional Information.

At one time we did direct line Research, which created many brick walls.

Families lived together or near and traveled together.  Cluster Researching  only

       makes sense.

School Tax Lists, can be treated the same way.  Muster Rolls can also shed some  light on

problems some times.  Tax Lists in general also.  I like to say any list of a given area

should at least have been scanned in this way if you are in need of information.

Having used this for:  WILL BOOKS, LAND RECORDS, PROBATE RECORDS, TAX

LISTS (WHO OWES) (WHO PAID).   There are many doors to open doing this.

IT SAVES YOU FROM GOING BACK ALL OVER AGAIN, GATHER THE DATA

      IN THE BEGINNING.

I CREDIT this information to: George R Schweitzer, Ph.D..

When doing region research, you can cluster the region you want out of the Master
       List the same way.

Jean W. Hibben, Presentation was Great

Jean W. Hibben did a great presentation today as always. I tend to be a bit bias since her hubby was a distant cousin. Thinking of them often. Karen Y made a terrific comment about writing down the family lore or stories. Being blessed we have had several written down and they were very factual. I suspect writing down at the time tends to make it more accurate. Having an Indian lineage not proven has been interesting. One lineage they contacted me . WHOOPEE. Great Uncle Claude had the FOULK/ FOLK family history done in the mid 1950's. His wife my Great Aunt said he read it and promptly burnt it. Much to her horror. Then word got out he had Indian lineage in his background. He didn't want to have Indian heritage. Leave it to me, I went to see him and we discussed this topic. Saying he loved me very much and recognizing we had some of that lineage in our tree he decided to accept it. But the book was gone. I have not found who the Genealogist was who did the book. The irony of all this was his sister my Grandmother always told us that her Grandmother taught them many Indian traditions and medical knowledge. She walked them in the woods and talked about plants and trees etc. When she visited she shared so many stories I wish I had written down. Those stories may have resolved many of the dead ends I seem to keep running into. She also made various drinks for us to use for sore throats and coughs. And she said that her Grandmother was half Indian. I beleive from CT. At this time no proof. Ironic, my so called (adopted) Ggrandma whom was my cousins Great Grandmom whom I loved very much. Did that very thing. Matilda Richoli ie Granda. She in turn took Bob, Don and I out to pick stuff for her making cough drops for the winter this being Bob and Don and Mike's Ggrandmom Granda R. We shared this the other day in a couple of phone calls. In reading some of the data in this book about part of our JONES line I had to ?? a couple of comments. Again had it been written down we may have had more knowledge factual. My cousin Don did a super great job on putting this together. So glad he did, now wish he would give me a few comments or page about my Dad, His Uncle. I am going to ask him to. This book is about the Ladies in my cousins life. He said he was tired of reading about the men. The Mom's etc deserved more credit.. Thanks again. Don Morelli A great cousin and big brother over the years as was his brothers Bob and Michael. Thanks Again guys.

Was Reminded, Thought I would Share.

Was Reminded, Thought I would Share. As we reviewed our bylaws I was thrilled to see what part of it said. In attempting to get everyone to share, please let me explain. When you are looking in a specific place or book and you know your fellow genealogist may have a name there. IT is a courtesy to check the index for their surname as well. IF we all knew whom was researching which area we develop a larger pool of information. Never have not seen this work sooner or later. As I was explaining to a member a few years back I helped a fellow member dig around for data and later she gave me a book she no longer needed. I did not think it was needed but did not say no. Believe me a month ago I picked up that book and flipped through the index and wow Not believing my eyes. YES on 1 page I had three lines and one I had been hunting for. The three interconnecting lines are related to my lines. Talk about thankful. Glad I did a retake before preparing to recycle the book. Genealogy is about sharing and caring for each other and their needs ie names, places and dates. One truly never knows when a new clue may pop up. You can look for years and not see it but suddenly there it is. More than two eyes are always better than one set. At one time we met and every other month we would have everyone whom attended state the surnames looked for and places so maybe someone else will also get included especially if they are looking for data in the same area. Best of Luck and share places and names with fellow members so we can help each other resolve our missed ancestors be found. I am going to start putting the data here for all to look at whom is researching in which states and then what the names are. I am almost positive we will find some links that were previously not known. Lots of luck so now share your 5 Generation charts with me and the states or places you are looking. YES, sharing is part our Purpose. ******* The Purpose of the Society is to promote general interest in the related fields of genealogy, history, and heraldry by individual and group effort. The activities shall include, but not be limited to: A. Encouraging the excchange of research information; B. Coordinating research activities; C. Educating members to assist others in research; D. Obtaining and organizing research materials; E. Acquiring books, manuscripts, and materials for the Chula Vista Public Library. The Society shall meet the requirements for exemption provided by Section 214 of the Revenue and Taxation Code, in cooperation with other like organizations. This Corporation is organized exclusively for the charitable purposes with in the meaning of the section 501(c))3) of the Internal Revenue Code. I wanted to share this since the comments abound the other day about doing genealogy at our last meeting. Sometimes for joy of helping others more than covers not finding what we hoped for ourselves. Thanks to all our members and their caring and sharing and helping us make this many years as an orgainization. NOW do you remember how many years? Of course not most of you did not start with us but joined as after you found us or moved here or developed the desire to do Genealogical Research on self or some one in your family. Susi at SusiCP1@gmail.com. Comments are welcome. Do come join us. Please and Thanks.

Discovering Sources at the Library.

Discoverying Sources at the Library Yesterdays class was very informative and I think the coming classes will be awesome. It has been suggested we try and another way to get our members more active and to get those interested in Genealogy to attend our Zoom or regular meetings at the Library. Having had a tenative schedule this fell into place very well. We are going to be finishing up the year with some real cool events. So we can talk about books at the libraries to help us, Newspapers at the libraries to research. Maps to see the changes and places that people lived. Why you say because as as a previous speaker told some of us eons ago, not all land is flat or hilly or swampy. Rivers and creeks and lakes and ponds exist also for the people of the past when settling in new places. I loved the idea that if the county seat was 20 miles one way over a river and up a mountain that many went to the nearest Office to file their claims and it was accepted. There by you have to look around the area you are looking into for data, it may not be n the county youy expect. Also remember this was a growing country. Boundaries changed often in the development of our land. Realizing Virginia claimed to the River Mississippi if I recall right. Also the Ohio River caused claims to change. Before the states west of Pa were developed they were carried by their eastern states for records. Look at how the counties changed in Pennsylvania. Virginia was doing the same due to trappers and land seekers and the Native environment. Many Natives were friendly many were not. Many arrivals were very negative to the Native population. This applies also to Massachussets and Vermont and RI etc. I suspect it applies to every state. The type of books to look at can be from Historical, to Cooking, to Gardening, to Political to to find the information one may need. Today so much is done on a computer I fear some of the basics for research is being lost. Some of our big Money sites are changing so fast and not expressing themselves well. I think we will always need: a Log of some format to keep track of the books we have covered, whom we have contacted, what was successsful and what wasn't. A five Generation Chart, A family Group Sheet will be a must on line or off. As a member said yesterday, " sometimes when I get a new name I have to revert back to the paper charts to know where this person belongs". If you are only working a Dirct Line it is much harder to fill in the blanks. Liking to gather the information and then decide what to use for me is the best. Also working with another person, a Cousin, Sibling, really works to ones advantage. I have done this on our Huffman-Hoffman Line and will share the link. WE have worked this site since the mid 1990's. As family blanks were found we filled them in, many relatives helped us and shared data. We are working the Jones tree the same way. Alas I am not sure that line will ever have a solid answer for the oldest known ancestor. A Complete another story so stay tuned. O Yes, when at the library you may meet someone looking for the same information as you also. Especially if in a Genealogical Library like LDS or a Genealogical Library. Carlsbad gave me five cousins of distance and much data. My goal when I helped start our society was to have the largest genealogical collection in this region. I thought then and I think know with the volume of people it could come true. I can be contacted at this site or SusiCP1@gmail.com or CVGS in Chula Vista, CA. www.ourfamilyhistories.com We are also on Facebook still gathering in the kin. Greene Co. PA created lots of family yet today.

Fall is coming, may Research bring you great Joy.

FALL IS COMING. I love fall for doing research. Right now we have raindrops falling. Yes, it is only August. Remains of Tropical storm affecting the south west USA. As I was working through piles of information to be filed I found this really neat book. Seneca County Genealogical Society printed Seneca County, Ohio Ancestral Charts. 1990. On a page in the book I found the mingle of three of my names about 80 years before I did it. I do not know if the creator of the chart is alive but I am sure the society may have a few answers to my questions. After all that is what we do is Help Others as a society. Having looked in Ohio data on these names but in very different counties. Never dreaming, A STONE UNTURNED was about to show me why we have to dig a wee deeper each time we think we are done. Having other books that have done that to me also over the years. Curious has other socities bound their charts? Someone said to much work to alphabetize. I said that is what computer progrms are for. Personally I couldd not care as long as I could read the information and maybe find another clue to my missing pieces. Yes 60 years of research and still many missing pieces and yet some of kin kept good mental or physical records. Thank You Ancestors. Thanks DAD for all those trips back to Wyoming and the other neighboring states. Thanks for the Iowa and Kansas kin that would meet us in WYO. Luckily in some lines I met 3 generations back of me. Genealogy is fun work, and can be very stressful or relaxing. One year I went to Michigan to the National Convention in Grand Rapids. Getting to glimpse at some of the President Ford's Museum information was far more fun than food. Yes on the carrier on display was a mock up of a E2 Hawkeye that my husband was associated with and made tools to make it easier to work on and save the Navy money. Thanks Fred E Pentico. He actually did more than one. It was cool to see Mrs Ford in a fur coat. Today that is not acceptable. I always wanted a stole. My how our times have changed and genealogy is changing witih it. Doctors are now using DNA to help make People well and to help some to not get sick . Everything just keeps changing. Others use it to find an organ donor, a parent, sibling or child. So onward and upward and lets see what more we can learn. But lets do it together. It is so much more fun. Wanting you to all bring a 5Generation Chart to our Bonita Sunnyside Meeting next Tuesday. You pick which member missing you want to find. See if anyone else in our group is researching in that area. They may have been stumbling over your ancestors looking for theirs. Tid Bit to Add, Anna's Resturant is no more since covid we meet once a month at the. Bonita-Sunnyside Library, in Bonita, CA Next to Sherrif Offices and Museum for Bonita. third Tues every month 1 to 3 pm. Thanks

Another New Find for Research

Another New Find for Research It seems to be that lately there are many places we have forgotten or have not ever used. People tend to shy away from lots of the paid sites out there. Nor can I blame them. Having stmbled on to some myself I have the need to share. Some Old sites are modernized and have lots more data than before. This includes Archives, Museums, Newspapers, Genealogical Societies everywhere. Many took the Covid time to start the changes, some are still knee deep in transferring it to our eyes. Some are even asking for help to transfer it for all to see. One is my favorite place to chat: with my relatives in Greene Co., PA region. They have a web site and used to put out an awesome quarterly. Now instead they are putting data up for us to all see. I miss the Quarterly as many others also do. Having planned to go list a grouop of sites to dig into, rethinking it and think slower is better. Facebook has many genealogical sites. Just ask for the county and state and a society and see what Pops up. As stated early try Greene Co. PA site learn what they are doing to bring more data on line. Yes do the work to get there. Cousins and I have a Hoffman and Huffman site also on site I am moving some of my information over to LinkedIn soon. Many very well kown speakers and genealogists are on there. Good Night expect more links and data to be added tomorrow evening.

CVGS Picnic Was a Nice Event. Thanks to all whom made it so Great.

Picnic in a Patio beats a park. The food was very delightful. Hope we do more of them. Thanks Sam and Terri Seat. Hoping others had a great time sharing the match game. Seems it made the brain work a bit after food in the body. Food o yes very good, Braut was excellent, the burgers and Hot dogs looked good too. Just do not get a Braut often. That. Krauat with Bacon was so good. I truly ate or tasted nothing that did not have a yummy flavor. I couple of dishes I wanted to find whom made them and didn't get that lucky. Everything was good. The company, the environment, and the food and people. COOKIES yes COOKIES, they were talked about by everyone from when I first stepped in the door. I finally got a taste after I took a couple home for hubby. The Lemon cookie was very flavorful. But I loved that mixed chocochip nut mixtured one the best. Bottom Line everything was GREAT. Thanks again CVGS.

Researching of Today. and the Changes we are Learning

Today we had a DNA Meeeting with our DNA leader. It was heavy, intense and not what I expected. Having said that I will explain some of my feelings. DNA is still growing and changing and becoming more in depth. As Genealogists should we be following this lineage of research? Or should we be working on the tree then when the DNA is more stable for finite research, use it? Having the appreciation of what I have learned and been able to discover in my parents trees. To confirm a couple of family stories as fact was the frosting on top. To learn a Great Uncle whom I dearly loved had his tree done. Did not want to learn what it said and burnt it. WE had a long chat about that when I went to Wyoming to visit much family with my parents and help drive. I still have not run down the Indian that was in the tree and if they found it in the 1960's it should be able to be found today. His thoughts on Indians were muddled. He said he loved me and having Indian heritage did not make me someone he did not want to know and love. Mom said when he lost his son he sorta adopted me as the replacement. That side of family was closer in age than many families but we did have others that were closer. Finding DNA a terrific topic and have followed it in Archeology before I got into Genealogy I think gave me a step up in grasping it. 4-H and FFA projects teach DNA for your animals also for showing and displaying. The topic today left me wondering if we should do our research or just wait til the government has it all figured out. Having many names I have not even cracked the book on, the intense of topic left me wondering about what names do you choose to research besides immediate parents. Then you have the medically needed data in some lineages. Today DNA is being used and followed by various Medical Personel to help families conquer ailments. It has shown many strides in the improvement of many lives. It has already helped in my family line and husbands regarding medical. Just heavy thoughts on the entensity of yesterdays Meeting.

Bonita- Sunnyside Library Meeting Today 29 June

Today One of the two signed up cane to the meeting. The two hours went fast. They were amazed at the information one can pull off 5 Generation Charts. The member had never used them for research before only filled them out. We used Phyllis Learned's Binders here that Gary Brock had said were the best documentation and presentation he had ever seen. I am going to use more of them. The amount of names mentioned floored me also. Since it has been some time since she passed. Suspecting at least 5 more people in society could use some of her information for the names we located and where. Also found information for Shirley Becker and Elizabeth Pentico while doing research. The 1790 Census has some interesting data collected for those states of that time. Used a different form of collection and will let you know what it spits our. Also found more data to send to Nebraska for those there. So why are we not looking at the 5 Generation Chart binders especially for the early members information. ? ? More to follow with some interesting names and places. We covered aabout 15 names and places. More to follow.

Five Generation Chart Time. Join us

This next meeting will be to get to know each others names, places and needs for help in research. Having learned and used this method in the past I am asking you to bring a 5 Gen Chart with you filled out as best you can. Goal is to learn where help is needed by all. WE have recent members and many older members and seems we all have blank spots and sometimes big holes in our tree. Mine seems to do more with females last names. Once in a while a newspaper article or someone elses genealogical data some one will be confirmed. Genealogy is not a quick to fix and answer event. In many ways, it is a life long event. When people kept Diaries we had ancestors who could reference back to earlier times. I have not written in mine in eons. Also if you have your computer or laptop bring it along if you have research data on it to help you. 1 to 3 pm. June 20 Bonita-Sunnyside Library, 4375 Bonita Rd. Bonita, Ca 91902 Educational Chairperson CVGS We hope to build on this theme for the summer. July 18th 1 to 3 pm August 22 1 to 3 pm Having learned we can have little meetings in between if interested, in patio area. I will probably be gone for end of August to a reunion if all goes well.

Belated Happy Birthday Dad

RAY DEE JONES SR, B 19 MAY 1913. Washburn Iowa area. HIS MOM HAD TO GET HIM A DELAYED BIRTH CERTIFICte in 1948? He was getting a job that carried Social Security. Punching Cattle in Wyo and milking cows in California did not apply. He was going to work for Hunt & Behrens Feed Company in Petaluma, Ca. Eons later he retired from their services. He worked hard and assisted his nephews with their FFA Projects. When he bought our home in Valley Ford, Ca. we had to add indoor plumbing. I helped him do these things. Being young and small I could get under the house and help guide pipes to the holeso in the intended bathroom and sink in kitchen which was a large room with narrow stairs to access upstairs. Previous owner had two lean twos, one that held a bucket for washing up and dishes. The other lean two held canned products, fresh fruits and vegtables. Also lots of old newspapers to start the wood stove to cook on. Dad took the single bedroom wall out also the wall between kitchen area and living room. This realigned a real living room, kitchen & dining area. We built; a laundry room, a back porch, a large bedroom. Later he added two cuppalos on one side of upstairs so we could walk up right when grown. Lots more light also. Dad called the place his mini Ranch. We branded the cattle. Dad we learned many years later used the same brand his Grandfather had in Iowa. He does not remember this part of family. He was never at his Grandfather's because he died before Dad born. We learned this from his Dad when he came to visit after we found him in Wyoming. Parents separated lots then ultimately split.

A Special 3 Days for our family

A Special Three Days for Our Famuly This is the time of year family gathered and shared events, foods and fun. WE had Aunt Ruth Hoffman's Feils birthday. Then we had my Dad's Birthday Ray Dee Jones and then we had Uncle Comillo Morelli 's birthday. HE was my Uncle being married to Etta Maxine Jones, Dad's oldest sister. Aunt Ruth was my MOM's baby sister. SO FAMILY WEEKEND twas fun. I remember we always had tradional foods. meat, potaoes, vegtables, jello salads, and breads then dessert. After I married and was home we had a abnormal luncheon event. We tried to do BBQ.. WE all survived it but was not anyones favorite and never repeated it It was generally fried Chicken, Potato Salad, jello salad with fruit in it. Sometimes baked potatoes or Potato chips on rare warmer days. Seems it was generally a cooler day and by 2:30 Uncle was off to milk cows and the wind be heavy enough all moved indoors. As kids we played games, or cards or horse shoes if weather permitting. Dessert was always Chocolatae Cake off Hershey cocoa can and Fresh strawberries with home made whipped cream. Dad's favorite cake ALWAYS. Some time kin from city would come and we would also make home made ICE CREAM. Some times plain, some times with Fruit dropped in. Loved it with Black berries or fresh peaches. The Ice Cream. It was a weekend that happened with just that one modest try of BBQ. Back to Chicken I think until it ended. They are all gone now. Veggie was generally asparagus, corn or green beans. Wish my family would have done this for our current family. I think it made us a stronger family to share together. 18th,, 19th and 2oth. of May.

Time to Think of How We Think. 1st

HISTORY ISN'T THERE FOR YOU TO LIKE OR DISLIKE IT'S THERE FOR YOU TO LEARN FROM IT. IF IT OFFENDS YOU, THAT'S EVEN BETTER, BECAUSE THEN YOU'RE LESS LIKELY TO REPEAT IT. IT'S NOT YOURS TO ERASE OR DESTROY. As a History Buff and Genealogist I find this a very profound Statement to digest. Our world started so long long ago, we the people have wandered All over its surface. We as humans have made some great strides. We also have made some massive Blunders(?). DNA has given us a new toy. A toy to Wake Up ---- whom we are really. A tool to discovery we are all inter related. Our world is very very old We have gone through more than one major change. We are possiblily getting closer to another change. Change is good if we embrace it. Be aware of what is change and what is politics. How many have studied our World History Or Our World Weather? Then they make these decsisons for us to live by and why. Looking Forward To The Day Where we, here, in the USA say,"We Are Americans". We are of many descendants of very many places. But we are not Green, Gray, Pink and Purple. I am proud to be an American and I hope you are too. Color is not a nationality that is a sad misnomer. And feeling never should be used to describe we the people of the world. I loved that profound statement and decided to share. Susi

SPRING HAS SPRUNG, ARE YOU READY TO DIG???

HI ALL, It is getting time to dig spring style. Last Night I FOUND FILES from my MOM. They will replace many files I lost when my back up drive died while I was away from home. Was thrilled to see cousins data they sent her and she always did great work. Almost all data was sourced. That was double good news for me and ye. Do you have great plans for Research this Year? Did you do up a formula for working the name, place or situation? Recently learned many are attacking their data in a different way. I thought I might try it with some of the more confused family information that is muddled. The biggest thing I have learned over the years is the more you speak to and share the sooner you have chance of finding answers. Some times you just stumble over it with out even realizing it. Think Spring and Get Started. We are all due more winter weather so Stay in and dig dig dig.

February is about to close Again. Spring is about to Spring!

February is about to close and Spring is about to SPRING! Are you ready for the changes? You may have less time for genealogy or More. Winter for many mneans more time indoors seeking answers to the clues we hold. So so wish others held the other half of some of my clues. Great Uncle Claude Foulk had a book done on his ancestry. Alas he did not like what it told him. Great Aunt told me he fumed and fumed and was truly upset and tore the book up. Saying the book could not be true. Alas he had not listened to his MOM or he may have felt different. She was whom clued me into the comments that upset him. At one time, all of my Dad's siblings had a paper written by Great Grandma about her family tree. I seen my Aunt Bethel's and Dad said he had one also at one time. Fear his went when home nearly burned and house was emptied. Did not see Uncle's when home emptied but he moved many many times via service USN. Uncle's neice may have gotten his for she was doing research. Ironic when I was digging I had forgotten about that story, Aunt Bethel could recall and tell it well. Having asked her children if they have the letter by Margaret Mae Eastman Foulk? So far a negative answer has responded. Fortunately she stayed with us several times over the years and so I heard it often when we talkd about family and filled in many blanks. No idea why I never asked her about her husband. I loved him dearly and yet I know very little about his family tree. What I was told is not what is needed to build his tree. He was in the USArmy during WW2 as was his brother in law Joe Collins USArmy and his brother in law of his sister Gerald Oliver Jones. Back to story GUncle Claude burnt the book in the fireplace it was over 200 pages Auntie told me. The topic that upset him was learning he had Indian heritage. Documented. No idea if another copy is anywhere or who the well known Researcher was that did the book. He woudl not divulge that data. That is the Indian I forgot to look for. Now that I think I have found him I no longer have the other information. Alas. Yes I forgave him and we had a long chat about our heritage since we also had some German and other lineages in our tree. So we can not decide for them who lived it, verses our some times twisted thoughts. Grandma taught me and other members of family many things she was trained to know. Plants to use, when to do various planting, what plants grew when and why and what used for. Medicines & food and to make clothing. SusiCP1@gmail.com

Much Was Learned Today at DNA Class

It was very interesting to hear many comments today at the DNA Class. A few weeks ago I checked back into my Ancestry Tree page. I do not do this often. Having my data taken and recorded and sold long ago leaves me with lots of concern. Ironic had they asked I would have given permission but trying to sell me my own tree with out permission from me left me very wary. More than 30 years ago this happened. I seldom put sources up on the sites I have now for the same reason. If you want my help or knowledge ask do not just take. Many dollars were spent back then getting Census records, Deeds, Wills, and other information to make sure my tree is correct. When my research started it was with my Mother's asking me to write to family that lived not near. I there by was able to reach many older people at a very young age. We traveled to my parents area of growing up as often as we could. Wyoming, Wheatland area. From being small to at least 5"2 tall Grandad H would set me up on the haybaler and ask my cousins to do the same. It was three of us for a long time. Then more family came along and I am sure he shared with them also. My graduation present was college or go see family. I chose family thankfully for they did not live many years after my last trip to see my Grandparents, Uncle's, Aunts and cousins. At times it would even be family from Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas that came to meet us while we were there. I met Grandma's siblings but one. I met only Grandad and downline of his two siblings side. His sister had passed, his brother was in Iowa. I met Great Uncle's and Great Aunt's also from those regions. Lots of cousins, and by golly some are still around, many alas are no longer with us. Grandma Inez Scott Hoffman had two sistes and three brothers. Grandad Cecil Lee Hoffman had one sister Grace and one brother Robert. Grace died rather young, she married Daniel Scott.Gmom's bro. Brother of one side married sister of the other side. I was blessed to set on Great Uncle Daniel's knee when I was 12. My feet did not reach the floor. He told me many family stories and I keep saying I need to be able to recall them some are in my diary in trunk in closet. He was nearly 6 foot 6 as most of the Scott's were. Most of thd Hoffman's were tall also. The two famiies shortest people married by being our Grandparents on Mom's side of the tree. So by sharing this you will understand my shock to have had my Ancestry tree severally chopped and cut and told different information was accurate. I am glad I keep a Master on my computer, alas I lost some when back up drive died while I was away for a period of time with other family members in need. This reminds me of the old Family Search data of the 1950's til some changes in 1970's. Having had to tear my very old tree apart due to incorrectly given data. Most were related but not in sequences I had. I am thankful for the DNA of the world today. I first learned of DNA reading Archeology Magazine. It was great how they could take fossils of old and tell you a story about them. How many years before they had lived. What they did and how the handled life up to a point. Remembering when they found the body frozen in a Crevice and were able to remove it and they did a complete story on the person. I can not remember the year but it was after graduation from school. Thrilled that DNA can now help Doctors and medical technical people for studies and potential corrections or cures. Better yet it can live hundreds of us together just like we were taught when little. We are all one people and so wish we would work more to get together and cooperate with life. My DNA is fun and interesting. Was always told about our Indian heritage and meeting various relatives made me realize it really is true to be so mixed. Thankfully one tribe reached out to me when I learned of the connection. What an exciting experience to verify something Grandad had always said he was told was true. Since then I have found lots of imteresting links to many interesting people of various heritages. To think my Great Uncle paid for having his history traced and when he found data in the book he said he burnt it. My last year to see him we chatted about the situation. After a long chat about people he said he was sorry he had burnt it. That line I am still seeking. One day I may find a Foulk that would be of the right group to do a DNA test. Grandma and all her siblings are gone. Dad's Mom was a Foulk. I have found kin on Dad's side of his father's family for DNA. Better yet we now have Doctors asking for us to do DNA to help prevent ailments and correct situations before they get out of hand. So do your DNA both sides and types. It may save a grandchild or sibling much grief.

March Events posting Early. Roads and. Trails Etc.

Since the world still going around am hoping to get the next month set up. We will be covering more roads and trails that affected our researching for Ancestors. As we already know many, roads and highways. are Indian trails, and wagon trails across the USA>. Now I have three of Bill Dollarhides, trails & roads books and I see he did another I missed some years back. I may go and try to find it. Having a family story Mom and I tracked or tried to for years. Maybe these will help to find the missing pieces. One would think if it broke, a just made treaty with the Indians it would have been easy to locate. The interesting thing was the man shot an Indian even after being told, warned and reiterated often to not shoot the Indians if they run along the side of the train. It was accepted in the Treaty to observe the people in the train cars. Grandmother Inez Scott Hoffman told us this story for eons. My two cousins and I would be sat on the hay baler and Grand Dad shared stories. Then He would have us go see Grandma for more stories. Grandma's eyes would be like black and sharp and glistening, she was very upset every time she told this story. (I think the person given to Indians may have been kin). Yes that is what happened. The Conductor came with help and asked whom did the shooting? The passengers responded to the man whose gun was still emitting smoke. I can not remember what his comment was but it was something to say, that they wouldn't really honor such an agreement. But they DID. Grandma said no one heard from that man ever again. It took three men to get him down the stairs and to the Indian in the lead. Fortunately, it saved all the other passengers and the Indians did not attacck other trains afterwards. But Grandmother's attitude made me always think it may have been kin? Eons later I learned my Grandmother had a touch of Indian in her heritage. So maybe it was the Indian killed she was related to but I do not think so. One never spoke about them in front of her. Learned over the years we have lots of tidbits of Indian heritage in our background. A couple of the tribes I have been able to find. One tribe found me, whoopee. These events took place many years ago so much of the heritage has diminished. I am still proud to have multi heritage in my background. After all Europeans had the same things happening with them in their earlier times. History does repeat itself. We have no control over it. We can only control how we treat people and want people to treat us. I do have other Indian stories that family experienced around Grandma and their mentioning of Indians. But Grandad Cecil Leroy Hoffman had many many stories to share about his families past. We heard many more stories of his than hers. The only other one I strongly remember was their trying to learn if she was related to the Lindbergs. This event will take place 21 March at the Bonita Sunnyside Library at 1 pm to 3 p m. WE do have a meeting 21 February also regardings trails and roads and travel. All are welcome.
