Belated Happy Birthday Dad

RAY DEE JONES SR, B 19 MAY 1913. Washburn Iowa area. HIS MOM HAD TO GET HIM A DELAYED BIRTH CERTIFICte in 1948? He was getting a job that carried Social Security. Punching Cattle in Wyo and milking cows in California did not apply. He was going to work for Hunt & Behrens Feed Company in Petaluma, Ca. Eons later he retired from their services. He worked hard and assisted his nephews with their FFA Projects. When he bought our home in Valley Ford, Ca. we had to add indoor plumbing. I helped him do these things. Being young and small I could get under the house and help guide pipes to the holeso in the intended bathroom and sink in kitchen which was a large room with narrow stairs to access upstairs. Previous owner had two lean twos, one that held a bucket for washing up and dishes. The other lean two held canned products, fresh fruits and vegtables. Also lots of old newspapers to start the wood stove to cook on. Dad took the single bedroom wall out also the wall between kitchen area and living room. This realigned a real living room, kitchen & dining area. We built; a laundry room, a back porch, a large bedroom. Later he added two cuppalos on one side of upstairs so we could walk up right when grown. Lots more light also. Dad called the place his mini Ranch. We branded the cattle. Dad we learned many years later used the same brand his Grandfather had in Iowa. He does not remember this part of family. He was never at his Grandfather's because he died before Dad born. We learned this from his Dad when he came to visit after we found him in Wyoming. Parents separated lots then ultimately split.

A Special 3 Days for our family

A Special Three Days for Our Famuly This is the time of year family gathered and shared events, foods and fun. WE had Aunt Ruth Hoffman's Feils birthday. Then we had my Dad's Birthday Ray Dee Jones and then we had Uncle Comillo Morelli 's birthday. HE was my Uncle being married to Etta Maxine Jones, Dad's oldest sister. Aunt Ruth was my MOM's baby sister. SO FAMILY WEEKEND twas fun. I remember we always had tradional foods. meat, potaoes, vegtables, jello salads, and breads then dessert. After I married and was home we had a abnormal luncheon event. We tried to do BBQ.. WE all survived it but was not anyones favorite and never repeated it It was generally fried Chicken, Potato Salad, jello salad with fruit in it. Sometimes baked potatoes or Potato chips on rare warmer days. Seems it was generally a cooler day and by 2:30 Uncle was off to milk cows and the wind be heavy enough all moved indoors. As kids we played games, or cards or horse shoes if weather permitting. Dessert was always Chocolatae Cake off Hershey cocoa can and Fresh strawberries with home made whipped cream. Dad's favorite cake ALWAYS. Some time kin from city would come and we would also make home made ICE CREAM. Some times plain, some times with Fruit dropped in. Loved it with Black berries or fresh peaches. The Ice Cream. It was a weekend that happened with just that one modest try of BBQ. Back to Chicken I think until it ended. They are all gone now. Veggie was generally asparagus, corn or green beans. Wish my family would have done this for our current family. I think it made us a stronger family to share together. 18th,, 19th and 2oth. of May.
