Carol Sobke Presents How My Hobbies Have Branched Together

CVGS General Meeting
When: Wednesday, April 25, 2018 12:00 PM, PDT
Where: Chula Vista Civic Center Library Auditorium
Will you be attending?

Chula Vista Genealogy Society General Meeting.
“A New Family Tree to Plant
How My Hobbies Have Branched Together”
Presented by: Carole Sobke

Carole's Power Point presentation is about her other hobbies and how they relate to my genealogy. There is a little German and Scottish ancestry, but mostly San Diego and Sacramento family history. "It was just something I put together for fun!", says Carole, "It won't be necessary to take notes and there is no handout."
Carole is a native San Diegan and "root bound" as she has never lived more that 10 miles from where she was born - Mercy Hospital! She spent many years as a bookkeeper and library technician. "I have dabbled in a little family history for about fifty years but didn't get really 'hooked' until I took Randy Seaver's Oasis class. During one session I discovered an insane asylum record for a 2nd great-grandmother. That did it - the skeleton's in the closet began to appear - and I have found many!"

Following the presentation by our guest speaker there will be raffle drawings, refreshments and fellowship to complete the program.

 Attendance is free

Scams, Scams, DNA Scams

MMMMMM, this in from Thomas MacEntee.  View this email in your browser

It talks of scams in ordering DNA tests and to stick with Known DNA Test company.

Topics are to watch for Scams, Use known companies, prices up and down and somewhere in the middle. Since today Was DNA Day.  I am late posting.

Went 2 hours north to ggrandsons Birthday Party with youngest grandson.  Home in time for Dinner fixed by daughter. Thanks BJ.

Hubby said he had a good day. Discomfort but not bad.

I trust you can read this report by Thomas and it might be wise to join his blog. He is one of the few I  follow for reliable and accurate data.

Best of luck on DNA Day and EARTH DAY.

DNA Quest by My Heritage So Exciting

Hi, Susi

Last month we launched DNA Quest, a new pro bono initiative to help adoptees and their birth families reunite through genetic testing. The initiative, initially launched in the USA only, received an amazing response. More than 10,000 applications were submitted so far to receive free DNA kits, from the quota of 15,000 free DNA kits pledged by MyHeritage, worth more than one million dollars.

Being that the deadline for submissions is the end of April 2018 and there are still about 3 more weeks to go, and in light of the many requests we received from the community to expand DNA Quest worldwide, we decided to increase the scope of the project, from USA-only to global. This means that people are now eligible to participate in DNA Quest regardless of their place of residence and regardless of where the adoption took place.

Please help us spread the word on social media, especially with the news about DNA Quest going global, and include a link to the website to make this dream a reality for families around the world. Read more here

They are global now to find your lost kin for adoptees. Very excited about this for a close family member.  Hoping to find how someone with a very close match is related to us whom is an adopted now adult, also.

Thanks My

Saturday, April 14, 2018 is Reawakening.....Boyd Researchers look here.

Re Awakening or so it appears.  Daily I get another email saying this list is working or that list is working.

We are waiting anxiously and not patiently for you to get the rest of it up for us to use.

Today I wanted to share that one of the lists has some one from Australia asking for our help.

He is a BOYD researcher and it seems all those helping him all have hit a brick wall.

I am posting his original notice so any and all Boyd's can contact him.  It appears he has done some very heavy and thorough research with help also from others. Only way to go Sir.
Let me introduce myself

I have been doing my own Boyd family from Killarney, County Kerry since 1980.  This family started in 1792, but we have not ben able to find out any details of Thomas Boyd’s parents James Boyd and Ann Nester and their origins.  So after a short period, I thought it was easier to look for other known Boyd families to find a connection to James Boyd and Ann Nester (which I have yet to find).  But in the process I have now collected some 870 Boyd Family Chapters.  (Some of these are only the parents and a child, while others are some 160 pages long.  Over 10.000 pages)

In 2002, I was appointed Chairman of the Historical Committee, for the House of Boyd Society (Clan Boyd)

So I have been collecting any known Boyd family that I can find – both male and female – and their descendants since 2004 when I have visited Libraries in the UK and the USA.

I have several Boyd families along the Hudson Valley from New Windsor, Orange co., NY to Kent, Putman Co. NY, Salem, Washington co., NY and Albany County, NY.  I will post separate message on these over the next few days.  Somme of these family members have done to New York City.

So if you have a Boyd in your family tree, I would like to hear from you please.

Thank you

Mike Boyd

Brisbane, Aust.

I have saved his first three notices, but wanted to share with others. It is only way to maybe find answers.

This method was the reason the group when we started this blog chose this title.  Ancestor Seekers by the Root Bound.

Mike Boyd, I wish you much success. So far I do not believe I have found a Boyd body.

What do you SAVE???

I know what the papers say and the timelines needs, but what do you really save for the future?

Mom always had us hold Xmas cards and if some one died she kept their last one so she would have it and their signature. Especially if the deceased was family.

I have always kept the Christmas letter from kin. Making sure to add data to tree if any was given.

Saving newspaper clippings, Obituaries, marriage, birth and significant news in papers and quarterlies.

We take way to many pictures.  My thoughts 5 children split them up and 10 grands so split it up some more.  Learning some save very little for future references, what will the down line receive or remember or be able to thumb through and bring back memories of days gone bye.

I think certain Birthdays need recognized and some Anniversaries too. Always amazed at how many d o not make 25 or 18 years.  How many years married  25, 50, 60?

Found that some lines of the family are on their last links and going to go away in my generation.

Wills, Deeds, and government data is a given, but what do you save for the family to remember the family when you are gone.?

Heads Up for Phone users!!!!!

Was just give a heads up.

Starting 2 June 2018. those living in our region must use this to make our phone calls.
You can no longer just dial the number.

Ironic, I made a call two weeks ago and was told not to use the area code.

To dial our home which is in the phone book for all to read.  You must change it
to read 1-619-690-1188.  No, it did not change if you were calling from out of area.

Suspect this is state wide? It is put out by California Public Utilities Commission

sub title

On Tuesday, April 10, we'll be LIVE on Facebook at 12:15 pm ET to rally support for this amendment. Make sure you follow us on Facebook to receive an alert when we're live. We hope to see you then!

It is a shame when they could make money instead they are attempting to restrict access for much longer and later.
