We have Anne Bowman is presenting:The final title of the presentation is "Irish and Scots-Irish Genealogical Research: Tips and hints to help with the search". This presentation gives an overview of the subject matter and looks at the big picture of researching immigrant ancestors. We will review the historical context of these immigrant groups, which records hold the most promise (both in U.S. sources and those in the U.K.) and a list of useful websites and resources will be provided.

Anne E. Bowman, DDS
Anne Bowman was born and raised in the suburban Chicago area and has lived in San Diego for over 25 years. She attended Loyola University of Chicago for both her undergraduate and dental degrees and earned a Certificate of Specialty in Periodontics at LSU in New Orleans. She spent five years on active duty as a Navy Dental Officer before opening a private practice in Chula Vista, retiring from dentistry after 36 years of direct patient care.
Anne’s interest in genealogy had an unusual beginning. Both of her parents were only children so she grew up without any aunts, uncles or first cousins and she knew only one of her four grandparents. When her first niece was born in 1998 she decided to investigate as much of her family tree as possible. What began as a casual hobby has evolved into a new career.
She completed the Boston University Genealogical Research Program in 2010 and is a member of the Linares Chapter of the DAR. She is currently enrolled in the ProGen Study Club and her ultimate goal is to earn Certification from the Board of Genealogical Certification. She is a member of the National Genealogical Society, The Association of Professional Genealogists, The Polish Genealogical Society of America and The Southern California Genealogical Society.

Genealogists, Historians and Bloggers Let us step to the Plate.

I just read on my cousins Facebook that more tornado's are being spotted and
the potential for more damage is great.
If you have the ability to get the word to the local people to not toss out the pieces of pictures, bible, school records etc please do. I do not know who all blogs in the southern region but a few.
We never learned even if we lost a blogger home or a genealogist, historians house but I can guarantee you that we did. Whether they were active or just did their own family they are
historians for their family and the Keeper of those Keys.
Looking at all the photo's and papers and albums and hand work found tells me we have some awesome
terrific outstanding people out there.
We need to make sure that the farmer and the townperson whom finds data of any kind gets it to any of the safe places for it to be matched to it's owner or to it's descendants family.

I should have pulled the store owners name when I was scanning the photos that have been posted.
Channel 19 WHNT likes this and slowly we hope others will step up.
We as humans do strange things in times like this and one will call it debris and another a family treasure no matter how broken.
People need to know that there are places to notify if they have located any items, quilts, crochet, knitting, books, albums, scraps of pictures and any other thing that the winds took to air, with.
Right now they are posting Tornado warnings for West Tenn and eastern Arkansas. Laine cousin dear be safe. Tina you do the same, all of you out there please take care and help those to get the word to others not to toss because it's a half picture etc.

Modern Gadgets we use in Genealogy
Well there is a Blog Carnival happening and it is about Current tech tools or programs, we use in genealogy.
I have to say I have some programs I use I like. But I am always looking for something that may be easier or better.
Again I was excited about getting an I-Pad and then things happened and I am awaiting to see
if the new computer will stop being non stable before I expend more money.
Right now I am wanting to learn more about the Droid device that Dick Eastman wrote about two days ago that is only $249. I am concerned for spending high dollar with minimal return.
I would never have dreamt my new machine would be so unstable and bouncy and frustrating.
I am looking forward to acquiring a hand held type scanner for pictures for my family from MOm's estate. I would like to know which one you all think is the very best and why. I am hoping to acquire and be doing this within the month.
So instead of talking up a item I use can you all talk up the reason for buying a good hand held scanner device and why that one verses other one. It is like a marketing device I need advise about the device.
I highly suspect my next system will be an HP. Should have done it this time.
I do like the Reunion program but Bruce Buzbee's program is very enticing and I could use it if I changed. I have used PAF, Paf for Mac, FTM, and Reunion, and use Geni.com for cloud computing.
Now I can talk up Geni.com it is a great site for sharing and gathering of information
with the ability to share with family and they add their own data. I can say I am a big advocate of Geni.com.

I was surprised to hear a statement he said but it made sense.
If everything is always the same and if your not willing to reach out to make change and
bring people in we are not going to win more members. He said that (Same) is a scary word to
hear us genealogists use to work with in the society.
We are moving in the right direction but we need to pick up the pace and expose our
members to more methods of exposure.
Wanting so much to learn how to do a webanair, expose the members to a blog radio show like
this one.
Sad to say, I am not technical for doing research. I am still learning computerize.
My goal is to have our members log into a chat room and learn a topic about a various place
they are wanting to learn more about from the comfort of their home. At a time they are not
working and can share in the dialogue.
He also mentioned another word we need to be careful of using. I will make a comment about
the other word next time.
Suspecting major change is on the horizon for genealogists in our very near future. My fear
is we do not leave behind the ones who are older and do not have the ease of access that has
moved us forward.

Not all the tragic waste of human life in the Civil War was on the battlefields and in the hospitals and prison camps. Far removed from the fighting front, in the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania, near the little town of Shohola in Pike County, more soldiers died in the early afternoon of Friday, July 15, 1864 than were killed in many of the small battles that have received some notice in published Civil War history. I have a couple of more hints in researching women before normal documents (1800 or so) research the neighbors, friends and 2nd cousins of the man about the time of his marriage, particularly in Virginia and research any surnames that persistently show up later as neighbors and slave records. ~~ RKat91, AOL.com
Last year a friend brought a film in and on the film a parish priest buried an old man and stated he was baptized a fortnight hence a despicable character who I am sure the devil was waiting with open arms for him actually written in the parish registers. ~~ BCRick, Looking4Kin.com
I was bamboozled by Ft Wayne but love our Carlsbad and the new Hemet Library and the Los Angeles City Library stuffed with more data than I have ever seen in one spot. ~~ Susi (Susan C Jones) Pentico, GenealogyWise.com
