Shared from Judy Russell Very Important, LVA Records

Library of Virginia

Library of Virginia is a place that most people at one time or another will need assistance from.
Remembering Jamestown was before the Mayflower.  Virginia covered many states in it''s early development.

Some was created by the Trappers and very early Settlers, covering all the way to the Mississippi,
Near Canada border, and down south covering into South Carolina.

So please read Judy Russell's two blog posts about the Library of Virginia and it's needs.
We need this site more than many if you have early ancestors to the Colonies prior to it being
  a United States.

I have spoke to Judy and she said I could share but I am requesting you read both of these articles and share the information with others.

The Legal Genealogist: Records access alert: LVA funding

We can not afford to loose access or loose these documents.
The follow up post is posted below. Please read both.

The Legal Genealogist: Doing more for LVA
What more can we do?

I love the response Judy gave.

Having found many of my ancestors were at least in this county at one time or another.

  Begin forwarded message:
Yes, of course, feel free to share it. Thanks for asking.

Tidbits of Information to Share

A Group of tidbits to share with you all.

Some are more helpful for some than others.

Have you ever followed or read " Family Folklore Blog"?
I loved the title of:" A Timeline Guides Research Questions by Sue Adams.

General Meeting with Randy Seaver 25 Jan 2017 12 pm

Upcoming event information:
CVGS General Meeting Chula Vista Civic Center Library Auditorium
Date: Wednesday, January 25, 2017 12:00 PM PST

Chula Vista Genealogy Society General Meeting.
“UaingFamilySearch Digital Microfilm to Find Genealogical Records”
Presented by:    Randy Seaver

FamilySearch has over 2,180 record collections, and many of them are not indexed and cannot be searched using search fields. They are digitized from Family History Library microfilms. Think of them as "digital microfilm" - you have to browse these records (look through them, not search them). There are finding aids to help the researcher find records for their ancestors - waypoints, lists of volumes, volume indexes, etc.
This presentation will demonstrate how to find records for your ancestors in probate, land, town, tax and other unindexed records, using several record types – probate, land, town and Italian civil registry.
Randy Seaver has been pursuing his elusive ancestors for 29 years, and has been a member of CVGS since 1993. He is a CVGS Past President, and is currently the Newsletter Editor, and the Research and Queries chairman. He is also a member of NGS, NEHGS, SCGS and SDGS.Randy blogs at www.GeneaMusings.com and also on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe, cvgencafe.blogspot.com.
The meeting starts promptly at Noon with announcements and intrductions. A presentation by our guest speaker followed by a short business meeting and finally raffle drawings, refreshments and fellowship will complete the program.
Please register soon if you plan to attend this meeting so that we may better plan for this event.
Attendance is free

Amazing What Twitter May Bring, More Sites to JOIN

Wow what a discovery.  Thanks to Twitter I received an excellent lead on some new places to post queries and ask questions and maybe, just maybe get some answers.

There is a website out there that has posted the top ten Facebook Genealogical Web pages we should at least be watching and reading.

Ironic, I was un aware of more than half of them.  But then I do not read everyone's blog. I have my more favorite ones I do not want to miss. Some are from distant kin and sharing data is key.

Thinking I may have to find time to scan a few more sites and share them with you all.

     https://www.facebook.com/MadamAncestry/posts/1555469201129974

Today  I will share this one and hope it helps you.

I will also remind you of this one.

January Event at Bonita-Sunnyside Library. Randy Seaver

Next CVGS Saturday Workshop – 7 January 2017

Free for all to attend.

The January 7th Saturday Workshop will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Community Room at the Bonita-Sunnyside Library (4375 Bonita Road).

The subject will be:  “Finding Your Elusive Ancestor: The Genealogical Proof Standard and Performing a Reasonably Exhaustive Search” presented by Randy
Seaver.

This event is free for all to attend. A description of the presentation is:

“Are you familiar with the five elements of the Genealogical Proof Standard GPS)? It deals with information, sources, evidence, analysis and proof, and was developed by the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG). It is the 'standard' methodology for professionals proving assertions of genealogical facts. The first element of the GPS is 'to do a reasonably exhaustive search.'

“In this presentation, Randy will explain the GPS, take a whirlwind tour through traditional and online resources that should be included in an exhaustive search, discuss his favorite search strategies and techniques, and describe a Case Study of one of his elusive ancestors that illustrates the concepts of the GPS.”

Seems the holidays got in the way of an update. This is the correct data.  See you there.

Darcie Moody needs some clues. Williams, Sexton relatives. PA

Darcie Moody There is Francis Williams, born abt 1812, who died between 1870 and 1880, and his wife, Catharine Rousch, both born France, lived in Susquehanna, Susquehanna County, PA. Their daughter, Mary, married Henry John Sexton, son of Joseph Sexton and Sophronia ___. I have very little on the Sextons, no land or probate records, a smattering in the court records. I have no death date or burial place for any of these people. So frustrating.

WE worked together on the old Golden Gate Forum in the 1990's.  So if you find some information please post or contact us for confirmation.

Thanks so much.

The title for the 1/7/17 talk is:  "Finding Your Elusive Ancestors:  The Genealogical Proof Standard and Performing a Reasonably Exhaustive Search."

There is a description of it on my "Randy's Presentation" page on Genea-Musings - http://www.geneamusings.com/p/randys-presentations.html

The event listed for Jan will be in March.    Sorry for the delay in the change. Come to this event it will be awesome. As always with Randy S.

This should give many of us a real boost.

The January 7th Saturday Workshop will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Community Room at the Bonita-Sunnyside Library (4375 Bonita Road).
“Are you familiar with the five elements of the Genealogical Proof Standard GPS)?
