The New Year is Upon Us, Are You Ready.
The New Year is quickly creeping up on us by leaps and bounds. No Creep in it.
Have you set any Genealogical Goals? Did you decide to try something new that may turn the leaf
in your genealogy?
I had a flash back about four weeks ago and realized I missed a key tidbit with out missing it?
Did you understand that statement? I had the data but my concept of its worth was reverse of what
was implied.
It is always beneficial to work with another and discuss concepts and results with others. Like being
so close but so far away, yet it is right in front of your face.
Going through old files I used when instructing before much was revieled to me.
Yes they may have lived done the road near the tree and the Creek run out back.
But what road, tree and creek there are many?
Sometimes it is amazing when you back up and re go what will pop up that was there but you did not see.
Also have someone else look at it study it and discuss was it up the creek not down, over the hill not around,
etc.
Multi names to sort is another bugger I dealt with when starting on one line. 5 men in the community area same named,
fortunately they were not all the same age. Tax Records, Probates, Wills, Land Records, Newspaper reports and reaching
descendants over a 3 year period broke the mangled mess.
Sometimes it is the littlest of tidbits that we miss that hold the key.
Looking forward to the New Year of really getting answers by trying to not miss the little stuff.
BLESSED NEW YEAR

Belated Blessed Thanksgiving and Hello Christmas Season, Books used in last Class
Being saddened by some news today and I hope Librarians realizse not everyone has a computer or that service.
Books are vital for research. They obviously last longer than computer systems that change sometimes yearly.
I recently found a book in my sister in laws past possessions that is 150 years old, not a Bible a Hymnal.
Lutheran in nature. Now what do we do with it? I suspect it was her Grandfather's book whom was a Lutheran
Minister. Yes two more boxes of data to filter through.
The side affects are pictures of kin no one knew we had. I think even Mary and MOM P had forgotten about them.
More on pictures later.
Mom Pentico's father was a minister. He had an appendix attack and died from it 5 days later . 5 days before Mom
Louise Jipp Pentico was born. I also have a book in German and unknown what it is. Think it had to do with GG Jipp's
being a minister.
I love Books because you can re read them and learn something you missed the first time. I can share them with others
and swap them for others.
So here is the list of books I brought to the last meeting.
Virginia Books and Mixed Information
Virginia Revolutionary Laand Bounty Warrants. 975.5 w 753
has been retitled from
Virginia Revolutionary Land Bounty Warrants by Samuel M. Wilson 1953
It is a Catalogue of Revolutionary Soldiers and Sailors of the Commonwealth of Virginia to whom Land Bounty Warrants
were granted by Virginia for Military Services in the War for Independence.
Samuel M Wilson compiled from Official Records in the KENTUCKY STATE LAND OFFICE of FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY
Southern Book Company Baltimore 1953
84 pages dark but small print. Having used this book often. You will note not taken from Virginia but Kentucky.
Virginia played a major roll in land distribrution from Canada down to Kentucky west to the Midwest and up to Iowa and Ohio
and lands in between. The Grant was very large and data was shared with the states that grew out of this Wilderness.
Virginia Court Records in Pennsylvania. Records of West Augusta, Ohio and Yohogania Counties, Virginia 1775-1780 by
Boyd Crumrine with Index. 1974 Genealogical Publishing Company Inc.
Are you getting the picture? Virginia early covered massive acreage, rivers and lakes. As our country grew other States
were created and developed. Some lands many times before final name was stable. So I am asked why you talk about Virginia
so much? Because if you came early and you can not find your data it may be in front of you in another region of same
massive lands.
Also Virginia vied for lands that others claimed and suits had to be settled. SW PA would be one of those regions.
WE have not covered PA as a state yet but it was chopped and cut and patched back over time.
The above mentioned book is very informative in the development of the border region of Pennsylvania from the eastern side
to the western region. The time period covered a semi critical time for the development of the region. Which includes Maryland,
today's West Virginia, and Ohio and Virginia.
I have found records in the Carolina's and Maryland and all states around Virginia of today from days of long ago.
More data to come sorry a situation I could not change but we are fine.
See you Tuesday 1 to 3 PM Bonita Sunnyside Library. Bonita CA. SusiCP@cox.net

15 November 2022 Bonita-Sunnyside Library Class
Greetings to all,
A day of joy and confusion but taking it all in.
As we entered library to set up for class we met two nice ladies.
We explained to them what we were doing and why we were there.
We shared our topics and agenda and one signed up to come back and the other
one stayed for our meeting.
Then we heard confusing information and some people had called to attend and
were told we weren't coming. Fortunately someone came to see if this was true
and it was not we were there for class. Early even by 15 minutes.
Then we shared information with the new attendee about what we do, why we do it
and the fun we have doing it. We shared books and pamphlets and documents to show
you have great support when doing genealogy and it is very interesting to learn from
when we came.
Jaye Wright came in, we were excited to see her. Her work schedule causes her to miss
at times. She was able to take several of the quarterlies that were free to browse and
see if kin in them. She is looking in Kentucky, Virginia and Missouri. She is looking for
Murphy's.
Thelma our new guest has a very interesting background and it will be fun to work with her
to get to the bottom of her tree. She was going to think on doing her Mom or her Dad's first
thing.
Her friend had to leave but we are looking forward to seeing Marge at the next meeting. Didn't
write her data down right away so will learn more next meeting.
Shirley B is still working on WRIGHT in NY and having joined a new New York group has been
learning tidbits to mull over. She also has been attending several on line Zoom Meetings to
learn more where she might look for information.
Taking time to bring Jaye up to what we had covered and what she was needed most help with
the time went quick. We look forward to Thelma attending the next meeting. We will be covering
a different part of the globe and that should be really fun. It has been 20 + years since I
helped someone research in that region of the world.
Our next meeting will be 20 December at 1 pm. If ever in doubt of meeting please contact me.
SusiCP1@gmail.com , SusiCP@cox.net of 619 623 5250. cell.
We talked of having meeting at my home if it was easier for some.
I will be bringing my quarterlies and books to pass out for free at the next meeting.
Many helped me it is my turn to help others. Have a great Holiday Season.
I will post the books from last meeting due to medical and surprise visit by friend I did not
have time to post them. In the next few days.
O yes, recieved Bill Dollarhides new books 1 and 2 and he is working on 3. WHOOOPEEEE

The Clock is Faster than I am. Data for Meeting 15 Nov 1 to 3 pm
BONITA-SUNNYSIDE LIBRARY, BONITA, CA 1 TO 3 PM
Come join in the Thanking Day for all whom attend. I am bringing a batch of quarterlies from
many places. Local and Distant, small and large. For FREE
Planning will do this again in January with a much larger group of give aways. As re=affirming I
no longer needed them, found not true. Added names over the years.
We will cover the topics brought up and the finishing of last event.
Books cover New England, New York, PA, KY., SDGS, Orange Co.Society, CA,, and others.
Thinking I have every Newsletter from the beginning of our societies founding.
Having asked for Daryl H to. talk to us about DAR and what is required and steps we are to
talk was requested by the attendees. She has agreed hopefully we set a date tomorrow.
Thiking of having other organizations give us a heads up of their programs and if we
may like to join them. At least learn what they are about and what they do.
Some of my favorite speakers are doing talks on line now. So will ask them also.
Being this is Indian Heritage Month, will discuss tidbit about new sources available.
I sent out a great write up by distant cousin recently.
DNA is becoming a big source for information and solving deeply rooted problems.
It is also being used more by doctors to help pre diagnois diseases potential in we
humans. It has been used on our daughter and my Great niece in Washington State.
Quesation to all. If I can move meeting to Saturday like before would you be interested
or leave it alone. Blessed Thanksgiving to all whom Read this.
Sorry had surprise company and did get this up two weeks ago. O yes, also so far
cancer free. See Dr again in December.

Sharing a Discovery. Hoping Others Learn Also.
Sharing a Discovery
I was clearing files and boxes and discovered a very important note that had been sent me.
It was not something I ever recall seeing before. Having been away a bunch at times and was
playing catch up when returning. I want to warn you all to have a good system in place in case
very vital data arrives while you are away.
Now I am attempting find their data and their family and see if they can share more with me.
I knew we were in that area after New York but did not realize it was more than a couple of the
Jones's.
Suspecting that they came across the canal to western NY and then over to MIchigan down and over to
Illinois region ie Nunda which I did find my line. Later learned that another boy came to Michigan
after his escapades with water and river and creating a new Lake. He also was down in this Nunda area
and over to Iowa where my line moved to. So yes they were in touch for this to happen I am sure.
Wish I had talked more to Grandfathers children when they were still alive. I knew there was a family
picture of them that hung in the hallway in their home. Seems NO one knows where it went. Do I want it?
No but I would like a copy of it to see the familys facial features.
So this note tells me more about my Jones and back to Rhode Island at least. Some of the names she
mentions I had but not sure where they were to be placed. Long ago a distant cousin put massive files
in the hanging files in Vermont Library across the river from where they lived. I suspect she lived nearer
that library than others. Or got less stress going there, but the files have been ransacked and many pages
have dissappeared. Like about 9 of them. So it is hit miss to put together. Not always the best event.
So if I had seen this note 10 years ago I would be so much more down the solid road.
O yes, it was put in my file but the completed file so I had not scanned those documents or letters in some
years.
At least it confirms what is found and now I have other kin to locate to gather more information, at
least trusting so. Maybe with just the last name of the wife it will give me more answers.
So if you go away and have data stored, it may pay to relook in that file to see if someone added something you
are not aware of. It truly made my day.
O yes I have minimal data on the canal escapade, from Albany area to west side of NY. So many of the things
this family line has done or encountered is so true to our lives. History amazes me.
Dad"s cattle brand was the same as his Grandfathers but he had no recollection of ever meeting him.
Just the stories in Dad's line and siblings that go back to copy others in their time.

18 October Genealogy Meeting Bonita - Sunnyside Library.
Hi all,
Mid Atlantic Research We covered.
If you could not find us they moved us to a Study Room due to Voting Training by County.
We did finally get one note posted to the door. Thank You Librarians for that.
We have been talking about the Mid Atlantic Region for a couple of months.
Bringing Maps and Atlas for the eyes to see, many times makes this comment more
relevant. Boundaries change, Boundaries did change greatly in some regions and
shrunk also. Somehow seeing the change makes it grasped easier.
Bringing many states books and maps for grasping this seemed to make a large
discovery where members were looking. The look of "O MY that much difference".
When I brought the book earlier this year on Pennsylvania, John Finch was excited to
see how well this book showed the Pennsylvania changes. From just starting to
completion of the states lines you can see the changes easily from big to little.
Then small to much bigger.
This Title is PENNSYLVANIA LINE, A research to Pennsylvania
Genealogy and Local History. Southwest Pennsylvania Genealogical Services P. O
Box 253, Laughlintown, Pennsylvania 15656 4th Edition. ( This book was my cousins on
8/00/92, in 1992. Compiled by William L Iscrupe and Shirley G. M. Iscrupe
A member at the meeting just got hers on EBay this last month. I bought mine on Ebay
in 1994/5 on ebay, When Vicki Porter Adams of Greene Co. Pa passed away in 1995 I inherited
her genealogy data. We were connected probably 5 or more ways, we started with Huffman/Hoffman.
She introduced me to this book.
ISBN 0-944128-08-4. A side note, it is created on long-life paper.
It lists so much information for us to use that does not go out print for genealogists.
Churches, County's, Towns, Family Genealogies. Data on Newspapers, County Histories, Census,
Rare Maps Reprints, Landowner maps, by Depository Libraries, Topographic ones also for
information where to find. Much referencing to Microfilm etc.
Virginia Court Records in Pennsylvania, Records of Western Augusta, Ohio and Yohogania Counties
Virginia, by Boyd Crumrine. 1974 This covers Court Records of the District West Augusta, and
Ohio and Yohogania Counties, Virginia. 1775-1780. With an index by Inez Waldenmaier.
Genealoogical Publishing Co. Inc, 1974 Baltimore
Filled with data and maps and information on the changes that transpired here to make
changes in our world to come. The boundary changes, discussion between Pennsylvania and
Virginia: 1748- 1785. maps several to help understand the changes.
I love the Original Map of the District of West Augusta and counties of Ohio, Yohogania and Monongalia.
Yes there is a copy in the book between pages 114 -115. There are names of residents attending various
Meetings and events. This book has much data.
A great book to read and check is this one by Bob and Mary Closson in 1980. It is a list of
FAMILY GENEALOGIES in the CARNEGIE LIBRARY, PITTSBURG, OAKLAND, PA
Some of your work may be done for you. Holdings up to. 1980 and it covers 40 pages of surnames for you
to check out in this library. I have several to check out when I get back to Pittsburgh or see if they
now have data on line.
WESTERN MARYLAND NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS. VOL 2, lent out 1 but Vol 2 is from 1799 to 1805. F Edward Wright
Willow Bend Books, Westminister, Maryland. self explained. 168 pages
As we know newspapers was major form of communication for that time period.
Revolutionary Records of Maryland, by Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh & Margaret Robert Hodges
Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc 1978. Baltimore
Many actual hand writen notices through out book. 1924. Court Records 1778 March Montgomery Co. MD
I can not list all the notices written but to me this is a must have book to Read or and Keep, 56 pages.
Due to hours change we did not cover all of the region yesterday. Yes we talked about our
ancestors. Yes, Some are of Indian extraction. Some may be of many other lineages. We are a
melting pot. I am proud of my heritage, having Indian on both parents sides and other nationalities also.
We looked at an old Atlas 1800's and it was very fascinating to see the changes in the world. We discussed
where the attendees were stuck and needed more help.
I may cover the other states on here and then next month move to the area they are lost in finding results
We covered this as they wished.
If you want an area covered please advise me. It sounds like Connecticut and New York are next. So much to
learn so little time.
Mid Atlantic covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware. and West Virginia. My cousin covered Delaware
her home state when we did this series. Remembering West Virginia split from Virginia at the time of the Civil
War. We can cover more of that if any of you need it.
Wish I had access to my old files. We met weekly and attempted to
be very thorough. Yes my files on discs. It has been a while.
SusiCP1@gmail.com or SusiCP@cox.net. long ago was aol.com. 10-19-22 Wed,
Thank You. Maybe I will give you my DNA next time.

October Bonita Sunnyside Library Event is On.
Our next meeting 18 October at 1 - 3 pm . Bonita-Sunnyside Library Auditorium.
This meeting is open to all interested in doing Genealogy.
We will be covering more Genealogical ?'s that were asked last meeting.
Planning on bringing maps and books etc to assist in your research.
Also will be asking about what you like about this event or what you would
like more of.
Was asked a question at end of last meeting, Love Questions, What if you are
not looking for the earliest records but in between.???? The answer is the
same method applies as what we have discussed.
I will go over it briefly this time again to help you.
Sharing a knowledge I found this last month. Frederick, Maryland in Pre western
Pennsylvania time period has many of those whom went westward to that section
of the Country. Also many were from Virginia.
The early settlers were not afraid to travel and change scenery if they did
not care for or like what one area offered they generally found another that
did fit their dreams or hopes.
If you can locate George K Schweitzer, Ph.D. , Sc., D books for any state
You will be thrilled with the results.
Bill Dollarhide has a new book coming out for migrations routes and paths.
Shirley Becker brought his last book to our last meeting and it was passed
around for them to see what it had in it.
Dr Sschweitzer used to say if not there draw a circle so many miles out and
look in those areas and expand accordingly until you find them. Yes, some went
back from whence they came others moved up down or forward in reaching a better life.
Remember also there were minimal boundaries the farther west you went or south or north.
Of course Canada was north if you went that far. He said many good tips for us to use.
Like go down the river than over the mountain at times, or up it to have easier access
to where they were going.
I have found county names changed, boundaries changed drastically in some places and
little in others. Which also brings up how the names changed too.
Come join us for some fun and learning.

SEPTEMBER IS GONE, OCTOBER IS HERE
September is gone and October is here. It is in the air and the clouds and the trees.
Planning for a genealogical event for Xmas ye best get crackin.
Align those pictures and charts up right and present them that night.
Turkey for Thanksgiving or another bird, maybe a goose or a duck.
Cost of groceries has risen, our weekly bill is nearly double.
Plan your menu's wisely and still enjoy these coming days.
Thinking more in season fruit and vegtables, for the table.
That spooky day is upon us. Dad called it Begger's Day.
We could attend parties but we did not go begging.
Does your family ever mention what they did in their youth on
this day?
Many talk of other holidays but this one is like
taboo.
This event was witches, pumpkins and apple dunking.
The time for apple cider is now.
Fresh berry pies of many kinds, Pears in salads and in Pies.
Sweaters, coats and jackets, no shorts but slacks and long pants.
A scarf or wrap some times is best. Hand warmers are coming.
Gloves or mittens, I prefer gloves.
Thinking of the coming days, how about you.

How many Books to Bring for Researchers.?
Since refiling books and downsizing and adjusting, wondering how many books to bring to our meeting.
Seems many only look at what is online and easy to see but many older books hold data you are looking for.
They even can describe the lay of the land and the development of the region not on line.
Many places tend to minimize data that is what is needed to have a good base for your tree.
Kentucky Ancestry. A guide to Gnealogical and Historical Research. by Roeeann Reinemuth Hogan, Ph.D
A very well put together book. It may not have latest topic but if you are searching backwards to
the 1700 and 1800's it worth its weight in research.
Also for Kentucky Research you will need to look at VA research or WVA research of today possibly.
Remembering VA covered to the Mississippi River and Canada and quite a bit south in some regions.
Having Scott surname in southern VA, the children scattered south to North Carolina, some to west and up
to Kentucky to Iowa and other places besides staying in that region. I only looked at KY to amazement
a cousin let me know about the going south adventure.
Even more fun famiy came into northern Territory of USA and migrated over to Illinois. Suspect siblings
got separated and not sure if they (then) found each other but family has now.
Mom used to say they had to walk or ride animal so never went far. OOO but we both learned not true.
It was after the war he decided to come weet from Greene Co. PA.
Her Grandfther as a young teen walked behind the covered wagon herding the cows etc. His younger siblings
kept track of the chickens along with a dog. His father was in the CW from PA but entered war as a West
Virginia recruit because Greene Co. PA lists were full. He was not the only one from Greene Co. to entire the
West Virginia unit.
After the war Franklin and siblings came west to Iowa. He as an adult went to Wyoming after some of his children
kept moving west. Many still live in Iowa to this day.
So do I bring lots of books or just a few. VA was the center of the development of this region.
Would rather do a seminar but o well.Hope many come to learn and enjoy what they find.

WE ARE THE CHOSEN
CREATED BY ??? UNKOWN
WE ARE THE CHOSEN. IN EACH FAMILY, THERE IS ONE WHO SEEMS CALLED
TO FIND THE ANCESTORS. TO PUT FLESH ON THEIR BONES AND MAKE THEM
ALIVE AGAIN, TO TELL THE FAMILY STORY AND TO FEEL THAT SOMEHOW
THEY KNOW AND APPROVE. DOING GENEALGOY IS NOT A COLD GATHERING
OF FACTS, BUT INSTEAD, BREATHING LIFE INTO ALL WHO HAVE GONE
BEFORE. WE ARE THE STORYTELLERS OF THE TRIBE.
I think this says a lot about what a genealogist is.
Maybe my work will be worth it when I am gone.
Hope to see you at the meeting at Bonita-Sunnyside Library
on Tuesday 20 September 2022 from 1 to 3 pm.
We are covering Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky with
lots of urls and maps to see. Lots of data on our beginnings.

DNA- Response Feb 19,2022
Today a person (distant cousin) contacted me via my DNA tests I did.
We had a great chat and share many names on Mom's Hoffman, Plants, Duvall,
and other names.
By backing off learning more DNA the last two years I am a bit rusty on
determining or understanding how to call the matching. But we figured it
out with surnames we both had.
It is rather scary to learn that our families are not having children any
more. When looking back at ancestors that had 15 children living and several
deceased.
Even more scary that the newspaper had an article about the lack of children
born and the results of harm it is going to cause the USA.
I am a sibling with three more and the break down is : I have 5 living children,
siblings have 3 living 2 living and 2 living. So my Parents had 12 Grandchildren.
We have 10 grandchildren and they only have 3. Many have not even married and yes
they are over 30.
If this falls true in most households I can forsee this message in the paper showing
much potential truth.
Thinking of doing more tracking on this topic just within my own family. No sibling
has more than 3.
Have to think more on it. Blessings all. Stay Safe.

What , Oh What Is The Next Step.
The year is young and time is out there, so what do you do when you learn
much of what you have attempted is not desired. A bit baffled and perplexed
am I.
Excited to find pictures Mary (sis in law ) thought she lost we have found.
We have a picture of Phillip Pentico 1828-1917 and another of wife Mary Rolland
Pentico 1833- 1913. Phillip is pictured with some siblings.
Each bag or box we open is like, what are we going to find next. It has been quite an
adventure.
It is great to share it with others besides looking skyward and saying, "Mary, I have
found some more misplaced files and photos."
Planning to add data to the Pentico page like the Huffman/Hoffman page on Facebook.
Many Pentico's are there.
Their last name at one time was Benighoff so we have learned. It has gone through some
interesting changes for a few years. It then became Penticoff, Penticuff, then Pentico
and suspect Penticost also. Maybe in timne I will learn if true since find one often near a Penticof.
Surnames used in this tree are partially listed here: Young, Saylor, Miller, Scharn. / m ,
Catherine Stull,Rolland, Cline, McQuillen, 4 names not known.
Wiggins was Emmanuel E wife name. More surnames Casper, Brown, Thomas. Emmanuel was a twin.
As pictures are found a slight smile appears on some ones face. Hurray.
Prayers for all.
