Jean W. Hibben, Presentation was Great

Jean W. Hibben did a great presentation today as always. I tend to be a bit bias since her hubby was a distant cousin. Thinking of them often. Karen Y made a terrific comment about writing down the family lore or stories. Being blessed we have had several written down and they were very factual. I suspect writing down at the time tends to make it more accurate. Having an Indian lineage not proven has been interesting. One lineage they contacted me . WHOOPEE. Great Uncle Claude had the FOULK/ FOLK family history done in the mid 1950's. His wife my Great Aunt said he read it and promptly burnt it. Much to her horror. Then word got out he had Indian lineage in his background. He didn't want to have Indian heritage. Leave it to me, I went to see him and we discussed this topic. Saying he loved me very much and recognizing we had some of that lineage in our tree he decided to accept it. But the book was gone. I have not found who the Genealogist was who did the book. The irony of all this was his sister my Grandmother always told us that her Grandmother taught them many Indian traditions and medical knowledge. She walked them in the woods and talked about plants and trees etc. When she visited she shared so many stories I wish I had written down. Those stories may have resolved many of the dead ends I seem to keep running into. She also made various drinks for us to use for sore throats and coughs. And she said that her Grandmother was half Indian. I beleive from CT. At this time no proof. Ironic, my so called (adopted) Ggrandma whom was my cousins Great Grandmom whom I loved very much. Did that very thing. Matilda Richoli ie Granda. She in turn took Bob, Don and I out to pick stuff for her making cough drops for the winter this being Bob and Don and Mike's Ggrandmom Granda R. We shared this the other day in a couple of phone calls. In reading some of the data in this book about part of our JONES line I had to ?? a couple of comments. Again had it been written down we may have had more knowledge factual. My cousin Don did a super great job on putting this together. So glad he did, now wish he would give me a few comments or page about my Dad, His Uncle. I am going to ask him to. This book is about the Ladies in my cousins life. He said he was tired of reading about the men. The Mom's etc deserved more credit.. Thanks again. Don Morelli A great cousin and big brother over the years as was his brothers Bob and Michael. Thanks Again guys.

Was Reminded, Thought I would Share.

Was Reminded, Thought I would Share. As we reviewed our bylaws I was thrilled to see what part of it said. In attempting to get everyone to share, please let me explain. When you are looking in a specific place or book and you know your fellow genealogist may have a name there. IT is a courtesy to check the index for their surname as well. IF we all knew whom was researching which area we develop a larger pool of information. Never have not seen this work sooner or later. As I was explaining to a member a few years back I helped a fellow member dig around for data and later she gave me a book she no longer needed. I did not think it was needed but did not say no. Believe me a month ago I picked up that book and flipped through the index and wow Not believing my eyes. YES on 1 page I had three lines and one I had been hunting for. The three interconnecting lines are related to my lines. Talk about thankful. Glad I did a retake before preparing to recycle the book. Genealogy is about sharing and caring for each other and their needs ie names, places and dates. One truly never knows when a new clue may pop up. You can look for years and not see it but suddenly there it is. More than two eyes are always better than one set. At one time we met and every other month we would have everyone whom attended state the surnames looked for and places so maybe someone else will also get included especially if they are looking for data in the same area. Best of Luck and share places and names with fellow members so we can help each other resolve our missed ancestors be found. I am going to start putting the data here for all to look at whom is researching in which states and then what the names are. I am almost positive we will find some links that were previously not known. Lots of luck so now share your 5 Generation charts with me and the states or places you are looking. YES, sharing is part our Purpose. ******* The Purpose of the Society is to promote general interest in the related fields of genealogy, history, and heraldry by individual and group effort. The activities shall include, but not be limited to: A. Encouraging the excchange of research information; B. Coordinating research activities; C. Educating members to assist others in research; D. Obtaining and organizing research materials; E. Acquiring books, manuscripts, and materials for the Chula Vista Public Library. The Society shall meet the requirements for exemption provided by Section 214 of the Revenue and Taxation Code, in cooperation with other like organizations. This Corporation is organized exclusively for the charitable purposes with in the meaning of the section 501(c))3) of the Internal Revenue Code. I wanted to share this since the comments abound the other day about doing genealogy at our last meeting. Sometimes for joy of helping others more than covers not finding what we hoped for ourselves. Thanks to all our members and their caring and sharing and helping us make this many years as an orgainization. NOW do you remember how many years? Of course not most of you did not start with us but joined as after you found us or moved here or developed the desire to do Genealogical Research on self or some one in your family. Discovering Sources at the Library.

Discoverying Sources at the Library Yesterdays class was very informative and I think the coming classes will be awesome. It has been suggested we try and another way to get our members more active and to get those interested in Genealogy to attend our Zoom or regular meetings at the Library. Having had a tenative schedule this fell into place very well. We are going to be finishing up the year with some real cool events. So we can talk about books at the libraries to help us, Newspapers at the libraries to research. Maps to see the changes and places that people lived. Why you say because as as a previous speaker told some of us eons ago, not all land is flat or hilly or swampy. Rivers and creeks and lakes and ponds exist also for the people of the past when settling in new places. I loved the idea that if the county seat was 20 miles one way over a river and up a mountain that many went to the nearest Office to file their claims and it was accepted. There by you have to look around the area you are looking into for data, it may not be n the county youy expect. Also remember this was a growing country. Boundaries changed often in the development of our land. Realizing Virginia claimed to the River Mississippi if I recall right. Also the Ohio River caused claims to change. Before the states west of Pa were developed they were carried by their eastern states for records. Look at how the counties changed in Pennsylvania. Virginia was doing the same due to trappers and land seekers and the Native environment. Many Natives were friendly many were not. Many arrivals were very negative to the Native population. This applies also to Massachussets and Vermont and RI etc. I suspect it applies to every state. The type of books to look at can be from Historical, to Cooking, to Gardening, to Political to to find the information one may need. Today so much is done on a computer I fear some of the basics for research is being lost. Some of our big Money sites are changing so fast and not expressing themselves well. I think we will always need: a Log of some format to keep track of the books we have covered, whom we have contacted, what was successsful and what wasn't. A five Generation Chart, A family Group Sheet will be a must on line or off. As a member said yesterday, " sometimes when I get a new name I have to revert back to the paper charts to know where this person belongs". If you are only working a Dirct Line it is much harder to fill in the blanks. Liking to gather the information and then decide what to use for me is the best. Also working with another person, a Cousin, Sibling, really works to ones advantage. I have done this on our Huffman-Hoffman Line and will share the link. WE have worked this site since the mid 1990's. As family blanks were found we filled them in, many relatives helped us and shared data. We are working the Jones tree the same way. Alas I am not sure that line will ever have a solid answer for the oldest known ancestor. A Complete another story so stay tuned. O Yes, when at the library you may meet someone looking for the same information as you also. Especially if in a Genealogical Library like LDS or a Genealogical Library. Carlsbad gave me five cousins of distance and much data. My goal when I helped start our society was to have the largest genealogical collection in this region. I thought then and I think know with the volume of people it could come true. I can be contacted at this site or SusiCP1@gmail.com or CVGS in Chula Vista, CA. www.ourfamilyhistories.com We are also on Facebook still gathering in the kin. Greene Co. PA created lots of family yet today.

Fall is coming, may Research bring you great Joy.

FALL IS COMING. I love fall for doing research. Right now we have raindrops falling. Yes, it is only August. Remains of Tropical storm affecting the south west USA. As I was working through piles of information to be filed I found this really neat book. Seneca County Genealogical Society printed Seneca County, Ohio Ancestral Charts. 1990. On a page in the book I found the mingle of three of my names about 80 years before I did it. I do not know if the creator of the chart is alive but I am sure the society may have a few answers to my questions. After all that is what we do is Help Others as a society. Having looked in Ohio data on these names but in very different counties. Never dreaming, A STONE UNTURNED was about to show me why we have to dig a wee deeper each time we think we are done. Having other books that have done that to me also over the years. Curious has other socities bound their charts? Someone said to much work to alphabetize. I said that is what computer progrms are for. Personally I couldd not care as long as I could read the information and maybe find another clue to my missing pieces. Yes 60 years of research and still many missing pieces and yet some of kin kept good mental or physical records. Thank You Ancestors. Thanks DAD for all those trips back to Wyoming and the other neighboring states. Thanks for the Iowa and Kansas kin that would meet us in WYO. Luckily in some lines I met 3 generations back of me. Genealogy is fun work, and can be very stressful or relaxing. One year I went to Michigan to the National Convention in Grand Rapids. Getting to glimpse at some of the President Ford's Museum information was far more fun than food. Yes on the carrier on display was a mock up of a E2 Hawkeye that my husband was associated with and made tools to make it easier to work on and save the Navy money. Thanks Fred E Pentico. He actually did more than one. It was cool to see Mrs Ford in a fur coat. Today that is not acceptable. I always wanted a stole. My how our times have changed and genealogy is changing witih it. Doctors are now using DNA to help make People well and to help some to not get sick . Everything just keeps changing. Others use it to find an organ donor, a parent, sibling or child. So onward and upward and lets see what more we can learn. But lets do it together. It is so much more fun. Wanting you to all bring a 5Generation Chart to our Bonita Sunnyside Meeting next Tuesday. You pick which member missing you want to find. See if anyone else in our group is researching in that area. They may have been stumbling over your ancestors looking for theirs. Tid Bit to Add, Anna's Resturant is no more since covid we meet once a month at the. Bonita-Sunnyside Library, in Bonita, CA Next to Sherrif Offices and Museum for Bonita. third Tues every month 1 to 3 pm. Thanks
