21 Feburary Bonita Sunnyside Library Auditorium Bring a Friend, Bring A Laptop, we may get to use one. An educational in-person meeting will be held from 1pm to 3pm st the Bonita Sunnyside Library, 4375 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA Free to all, advanced or beginners. Discussion will include introductions, experiences, needs, and goals. Susi will have genealogy books, and pamphlets available to share as well as some Tenessee Informaion. The New Year is Upon Us, Are You Ready. The New Year is quickly creeping up on us by leaps and bounds. No Creep in it. Have you set any Genealogical Goals? Did you decide to try something new that may turn the leaf in your genealogy? I had a flash back about four weeks ago and realized I missed a key tidbit with out missing it? Did you understand that statement? I had the data but my concept of its worth was reverse of what was implied. It is always beneficial to work with another and discuss concepts and results with others. Like being so close but so far away, yet it is right in front of your face. Going through old files I used when instructing before much was revieled to me. Yes they may have lived done the road near the tree and the Creek run out back. But what road, tree and creek there are many? Sometimes it is amazing when you back up and re go what will pop up that was there but you did not see. Also have someone else look at it study it and discuss was it up the creek not down, over the hill not around, etc. Multi names to sort is another bugger I dealt with when starting on one line. 5 men in the community area same named, fortunately they were not all the same age. Tax Records, Probates, Wills, Land Records, Newspaper reports and reaching descendants over a 3 year period broke the mangled mess. Sometimes it is the littlest of tidbits that we miss that hold the key. Looking forward to the New Year of really getting answers by trying to not miss the little stuff. BLESSED NEW YEAR

Belated Blessed Thanksgiving and Hello Christmas Season, Books used in last Class

Being saddened by some news today and I hope Librarians realizse not everyone has a computer or that service. Books are vital for research. They obviously last longer than computer systems that change sometimes yearly. I recently found a book in my sister in laws past possessions that is 150 years old, not a Bible a Hymnal. Lutheran in nature. Now what do we do with it? I suspect it was her Grandfather's book whom was a Lutheran Minister. Yes two more boxes of data to filter through. The side affects are pictures of kin no one knew we had. I think even Mary and MOM P had forgotten about them. More on pictures later. Mom Pentico's father was a minister. He had an appendix attack and died from it 5 days later . 5 days before Mom Louise Jipp Pentico was born. I also have a book in German and unknown what it is. Think it had to do with GG Jipp's being a minister. I love Books because you can re read them and learn something you missed the first time. I can share them with others and swap them for others. So here is the list of books I brought to the last meeting. Virginia Books and Mixed Information Virginia Revolutionary Laand Bounty Warrants. 975.5 w 753 has been retitled from Virginia Revolutionary Land Bounty Warrants by Samuel M. Wilson 1953 It is a Catalogue of Revolutionary Soldiers and Sailors of the Commonwealth of Virginia to whom Land Bounty Warrants were granted by Virginia for Military Services in the War for Independence. Samuel M Wilson compiled from Official Records in the KENTUCKY STATE LAND OFFICE of FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY Southern Book Company Baltimore 1953 84 pages dark but small print. Having used this book often. You will note not taken from Virginia but Kentucky. Virginia played a major roll in land distribrution from Canada down to Kentucky west to the Midwest and up to Iowa and Ohio and lands in between. The Grant was very large and data was shared with the states that grew out of this Wilderness. Virginia Court Records in Pennsylvania. Records of West Augusta, Ohio and Yohogania Counties, Virginia 1775-1780 by Boyd Crumrine with Index. 1974 Genealogical Publishing Company Inc. Are you getting the picture? Virginia early covered massive acreage, rivers and lakes. As our country grew other States were created and developed. Some lands many times before final name was stable. So I am asked why you talk about Virginia so much? Because if you came early and you can not find your data it may be in front of you in another region of same massive lands. Also Virginia vied for lands that others claimed and suits had to be settled. SW PA would be one of those regions. WE have not covered PA as a state yet but it was chopped and cut and patched back over time. The above mentioned book is very informative in the development of the border region of Pennsylvania from the eastern side to the western region. The time period covered a semi critical time for the development of the region. Which includes Maryland, today's West Virginia, and Ohio and Virginia. I have found records in the Carolina's and Maryland and all states around Virginia of today from days of long ago. More data to come sorry a situation I could not change but we are fine. Greetings to all, A day of joy and confusion but taking it all in. As we entered library to set up for class we met two nice ladies. We explained to them what we were doing and why we were there. We shared our topics and agenda and one signed up to come back and the other one stayed for our meeting. Then we heard confusing information and some people had called to attend and were told we weren't coming. Fortunately someone came to see if this was true and it was not we were there for class. Early even by 15 minutes. Then we shared information with the new attendee about what we do, why we do it and the fun we have doing it. We shared books and pamphlets and documents to show you have great support when doing genealogy and it is very interesting to learn from when we came. Jaye Wright came in, we were excited to see her. Her work schedule causes her to miss at times. She was able to take several of the quarterlies that were free to browse and see if kin in them. She is looking in Kentucky, Virginia and Missouri. She is looking for Murphy's. Thelma our new guest has a very interesting background and it will be fun to work with her to get to the bottom of her tree. She was going to think on doing her Mom or her Dad's first thing. Her friend had to leave but we are looking forward to seeing Marge at the next meeting. Didn't write her data down right away so will learn more next meeting. Shirley B is still working on WRIGHT in NY and having joined a new New York group has been learning tidbits to mull over. She also has been attending several on line Zoom Meetings to learn more where she might look for information. Taking time to bring Jaye up to what we had covered and what she was needed most help with the time went quick. We look forward to Thelma attending the next meeting. We will be covering a different part of the globe and that should be really fun. It has been 20 + years since I helped someone research in that region of the world. BONITA-SUNNYSIDE LIBRARY, BONITA, CA 1 TO 3 PM Come join in the Thanking Day for all whom attend. I am bringing a batch of quarterlies from many places. Local and Distant, small and large. For FREE Planning will do this again in January with a much larger group of give aways. As re=affirming I no longer needed them, found not true. Added names over the years. We will cover the topics brought up and the finishing of last event. Books cover New England, New York, PA, KY., SDGS, Orange Co.Society, CA,, and others. Thinking I have every Newsletter from the beginning of our societies founding. Having asked for Daryl H to. talk to us about DAR and what is required and steps we are to talk was requested by the attendees. She has agreed hopefully we set a date tomorrow. Thiking of having other organizations give us a heads up of their programs and if we may like to join them. At least learn what they are about and what they do. Some of my favorite speakers are doing talks on line now. So will ask them also. Being this is Indian Heritage Month, will discuss tidbit about new sources available. I sent out a great write up by distant cousin recently. DNA is becoming a big source for information and solving deeply rooted problems. It is also being used more by doctors to help pre diagnois diseases potential in we humans. It has been used on our daughter and my Great niece in Washington State. Quesation to all. Sharing a Discovery. Hoping Others Learn Also.

Sharing a Discovery I was clearing files and boxes and discovered a very important note that had been sent me. It was not something I ever recall seeing before. Having been away a bunch at times and was playing catch up when returning. I want to warn you all to have a good system in place in case very vital data arrives while you are away. Now I am attempting find their data and their family and see if they can share more with me. I knew we were in that area after New York but did not realize it was more than a couple of the Jones's. Suspecting that they came across the canal to western NY and then over to MIchigan down and over to Illinois region ie Nunda which I did find my line. Later learned that another boy came to Michigan after his escapades with water and river and creating a new Lake. He also was down in this Nunda area and over to Iowa where my line moved to. So yes they were in touch for this to happen I am sure. Wish I had talked more to Grandfathers children when they were still alive. I knew there was a family picture of them that hung in the hallway in their home. Seems NO one knows where it went. Do I want it? No but I would like a copy of it to see the familys facial features. So this note tells me more about my Jones and back to Rhode Island at least. Some of the names she mentions I had but not sure where they were to be placed. Long ago a distant cousin put massive files in the hanging files in Vermont Library across the river from where they lived. I suspect she lived nearer that library than others. Or got less stress going there, but the files have been ransacked and many pages have dissappeared. Like about 9 of them. So it is hit miss to put together. Not always the best event. So if I had seen this note 10 years ago I would be so much more down the solid road. O yes, it was put in my file but the completed file so I had not scanned those documents or letters in some years. At least it confirms what is found and now I have other kin to locate to gather more information, at least trusting so. Maybe with just the last name of the wife it will give me more answers. So if you go away and have data stored, it may pay to relook in that file to see if someone added something you are not aware of. It truly made my day. O yes I have minimal data on the canal escapade, from Albany area to west side of NY. So many of the things this family line has done or encountered is so true to our lives. History amazes me. Dad"s cattle brand was the same as his Grandfathers but he had no recollection of ever meeting him. Just the stories in Dad's line and siblings that go back to copy others in their time.
